The Port of Long Beach is seeking comments on the environmental impacts of a proposed project to install two additional petroleum storage tankers at a terminal currently being operated at the facility in Southern California.
World Oil Terminals has applied for a permit to construct and operate two new 25,000 bbl petroleum storage tanks.
The port on Wednesday issued its draft report looking at the environmental impacts of the proposed project.
The tanks will have internal floating roofs with new tank foundations and piping connections to existing facility infrastructure, which include truck-loading racks and pipelines.
The project proposal looks to shift storage of petroleum products currently being done at two existing tanks at the terminal to the two proposed tanks.
The plan for the existing tanks is to make them available for lease by third-party vendors for storage of marine fuel and marine fuel blending components, which are already being stored at the facility.
The port plans a virtual hearing Nov. 8, followed by an in-person hearing Nov. 9. Written comments on the proposed project will be accepted through Dec. 11.
