“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” set a number of records during its opening weekend, as Swifties flocked to theaters to see the eagerly-anticipated concert film.
Citing global box office estimates, Comscore reported Sunday that “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” had shattered the record for the highest concert-film global opening weekend, racking $128 million in box office returns. “From Friday-Sunday, the film well outpaced the previous global opening weekend record of $74.25 million set by Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT, in 2009,” Comscore said in a statement. “This is a film release like none other, with record setting advance ticket sales and tremendous social media exposure.”
The movie, which is distributed domestically by AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc.

and Variance Films and internationally by Trafalgar Releasing, has been touted as one of the year’s biggest releases, following on from the success of summer blockbusters “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer.”

IMAX,
announced that “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” had a $13 million debut in global box offices, making it the largest Imax opening for a concert or documentary film by a musical artist.
“The impressive numbers we’re seeing with ‘TAYLOR SWIFT: THE ERAS TOUR” are usually reserved for Hollywood blockbusters, demonstrating how demand for the IMAX Experience has expanded beyond our core audience,” Rich Gelfond, CEO of Imax, said in a statement.
The movie opened on 613 IMAX screens worldwide, and will open in additional international markets on Oct. 26 and Nov. 3. Imax’s stock rose 1.6% in premarket trades Monday.

AMC Theatres said Sunday that the movie brought in between $95 million and $97 million in North America in its debut, the Associated Press reported.

is also offering Private Swiftie Parties, where fans can hire a private auditorium to see “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.”
