FirstEnergy subsidiary Penn Power has completed grid enhancements in Mercer County.
The New Castle, Pa.-based Penn Power said Monday it had installed more than a dozen automated “reclosing” circuit breaker-like devices in substations and along power lines. The company said the new installations serve 15,000 customers and would reduce outages during severe weather.
The improvements are part of Penn Power’s long-term improvement plan, which has so far reduced service interruptions related to outages by 74%, it said.
And almost 100 poles more resistant to winter weather were installed.
