India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.28%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the lost 0.28%, while the index fell 0.34%.

The best performers of the session on the were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:), which rose 1.91% or 3.15 points to trade at 167.75 at the close. Meanwhile, Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:) added 1.26% or 40.95 points to end at 3,294.00 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:) was up 1.04% or 8.30 points to 805.70 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:), which fell 1.44% or 35.00 points to trade at 2,387.90 at the close. UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:) declined 1.27% or 105.40 points to end at 8,220.50 and Infosys Ltd (NS:) was down 1.13% or 15.30 points to 1,333.30.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:) which rose 0.62% to 1,878.50, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:) which was up 0.61% to settle at 5,195.90 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:) which gained 0.48% to close at 3,408.40.

The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:) which was down 1.17% to 1,333.35 in late trade, UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:) which lost 1.14% to settle at 8,232.00 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:) which was down 0.95% to 1,633.00 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1016 to 911 and 72 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1684 rose and 1656 declined, while 137 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.70% to 10.94.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.11% or 2.15 to $1,939.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.12% or 0.09 to hit $74.92 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $79.41 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.17% to 82.28, while EUR/INR fell 0.04% to 90.68.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 101.19.
