Oracle makes health unit layoffs, report says

Software giant Oracle Corp. has laid off hundreds of employees, cut back open positions and rescinded job offers at its health unit, according to a report.  

The cuts were first reported by Insider, which cited three people with knowledge of the matter.

Reuters noted that Oracle’s health unit includes electronic medical records company Cerner. Oracle announced its nearly $30 billion deal for Cerner in late 2021 and completed the acquisition last year.

More than 206,000 global technology-sector employees have been laid off since the start of 2023, according to data compiled by the website Layoffs.fyi.

The data show that 2023 has surpassed 2022 for global tech redundancies, with 777 tech companies laying off 206,694 employees since the start of the year. Last year, 1,024 tech companies laid off a total of 154,336 employees, according to Layoffs.fyi.
