Over-the-counter markets will also be closed.<\/p>\n<h2>Are International Markets Open on Thanksgiving?<\/h2>\n<p>Foreign stock exchanges\u2014including those in London, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Toronto\u2014will be open Thursday. <\/p>\n<p>The Tokyo Stock Exchange, however, will be closed Thursday for Labor Thanksgiving Day. <\/p>\n<h2>Are Banks and Post Offices Open Today? What About Private Carriers? <\/h2>\n<p>Banks and post offices will be closed on Thursday. Most services from UPS and FedEx will be shuttered, too. <\/p>\n<h2>What Else Should I Know About Thanksgiving?<\/h2>\n<p>Thanksgiving, which gets its roots from a 1621 harvest meal between the Pilgrims and Wampanoag people, is a federal holiday celebrated annually on the fourth Thursday in November in the U.S. For many Americans, Thanksgiving festivities involve time with loved ones, expressing what they are thankful for\u2014and celebrating with an array of dishes such as turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberries, and pie. <\/p>\n<p>Holiday travel is expected to be the third-busiest period since the AAA started tracking it in 2000, with an estimated 55.4 million people planning to go 50 miles or more from home, <em>Barron\u2019s<\/em> reported last week.<\/p>\n<h2>How Has the Stock Market Performed Around Thanksgiving? <\/h2>\n<p>If history is any indication, markets may post small gains this week.
