{"id":86449,"date":"2023-11-20T00:21:21","date_gmt":"2023-11-20T05:21:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/markets\/crypto\/russian-mps-urge-digital-ruble-rethink\/"},"modified":"2023-11-20T00:21:23","modified_gmt":"2023-11-20T05:21:23","slug":"russian-mps-urge-digital-ruble-rethink","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/?p=86449","title":{"rendered":"Russian MPs Urge Digital Ruble Rethink"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_133293\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-133293\" style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><noscript><\/noscript><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-133293\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Alex Zarubi\/Unsplash<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Russian lawmakers want the country\u2019s Central Bank to ditch its current retail model digital ruble in favor of a wholesale alternative.<\/p>\n<p>Per Interfax, three State Duma committees submitted a joint response to the Central Bank\u2019s monetary policy report for 2024-2026.<\/p>\n<p>The committees said they want the Central Bank to \u201creturn to considering\u201d\u00a0 introducing a wholesale digital ruble model.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers said this type of coin could help businesses and financial firms in the country make interbank payments.<\/p>\n<p>The Central Bank initially considered a wholesale model, but in April 2021 decided to scrap the idea and \u201cgive preference to a retail model.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bank has since launched real-world pilots for its retail model, and hopes to expand these early next year.<\/p>\n<p>The bank wants to make a nationwide rollout by early 2025, and also hopes the CBDC will soon make a debut on the international stage.<\/p>\n<p>But Interfax reported that the a passage in the committees\u2019 joint statement reads:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe retail digital ruble is intended to expand the payment capabilities of the public and business.
