Hashdex previously filed to convert its current Bitcoin Futures ETF (DEFI), listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and sponsored by Teucrium Trading, to a spot Bitcoin ETF. If approved, Hashdex Bitcoin ETF will be the first U.S. exchange-traded fund that invests directly in Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JSeyff\/status\/1724469793422508533?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1724469793422508533%7Ctwgr%5E6b9ac7deed8da0f3fe3731e1b961f946d3a62e2c%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcryptonews.com%2Fnews%2Fus-sec-to-decide-on-two-spot-bitcoin-etfs-by-nov-17.htm\">Bloomberg Intelligence<\/a>, the SEC had until Nov.17 to make a decision on Hashdex Bitcoin ETF. The SEC now announces the new decision deadline to be Jan. 1, 2024, and expects to provide more updates then.<\/p>\n<p>The approval decision of Grayscale\u2019s Ethereum Futures Trust (ETH) ETF has also been delayed to Jan.1, 2024.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Spot bitcoin ETF approval *could* come this week\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s my attempt to briefly summarize the situation that <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JSeyff?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JSeyff<\/a> was all over.<\/p>\n<p>h\/t <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SGJohnsson?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SGJohnsson<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/whAAiHxwaZ\">pic.twitter.com\/whAAiHxwaZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Nate Geraci (@NateGeraci) <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NateGeraci\/status\/1723867261293699364?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 13, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Though there have been speculations about the approvals, including the analysis by the Bloomberg analyst James Seyffart and The ETF Store president Nate Geraci. Yet again Hashdex\u2019s and Grayscale\u2019s filings were deferred, like numerous other ETF filings.<\/p>\n<h2>SEC\u2019s Concern about Spot Bitcoin ETF<\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"replacer\"><\/span><br \/>In 2021, SEC Chairman Gary Gensler stated that \u201cthe markets for actual Bitcoin itself today are largely unregulated\u201d and \u201cthis lack of regulatory oversight and surveillance leads to concerns about the potential for fraud and manipulation.\u201d The authorities are also concerned about the unconventional volatility of cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n<p>As the regulatory body proceeds with caution, looking out for surveillance gaps, financial institutions like BlackRock have also been considering including additional safety nets to its ETF filing and operation. Earlier in June, BlackRock filed for a Bitcoin ETF and planned to have Coinbase Custody as its Bitcoin custodian. Coinbase, on the other hand, is the only publicly traded and spot-crypto exclusive U.S. exchange.
