Yet October 27, the company\u2019s shares closed 21% below $698 a share \u2014 their all-time high in October 2021.<\/p>\n<p>To be sure, ServiceNow\u2019s stock has risen 4.5% since it announced those great results last Wednesday. However, given ServiceNow\u2019s success at winning customers to Lighthouse \u2014 its Generative AI fueled platform launched in September \u2014 its stock price could be undervalued.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\">ServiceNow\u2019s Third Quarter Performance And Prospects<\/h2>\n<p>ServiceNow<fbs-ticker data-name=\"NOW\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/companies\/servicenow\" data-type=\"stock\"><br \/>\n  NOW<br \/>\n <\/fbs-ticker> beat and raised in its Fiscal Year Third Quarter financial report. The company \u201conce again delivered beyond expectations, significantly surpassing the high end of our topline growth and profitability guidance \u2013 and raised 2023 subscription revenue and operating margin guidance,\u201d according to a company spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p><fbs-ad position=\"inread\" progressive=\"\" ad-id=\"article-0-inread\" aria-hidden=\"true\" role=\"presentation\"><\/fbs-ad><\/p>\n<p>Here are the highlights of ServiceNow\u2019s report:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Revenue up 22.7% to<\/strong> <strong>$2.29 billion<\/strong> \u2014 $20 million above the analyst consensus, according to <em data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/servicenow-nyse-now-reports-q3-202548466.html\">Yahoo! Finance<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Subscription revenue up 27% to $2.216 billion<\/strong> \u2014 \u201cmore than\u201d one percentage point faster than ServiceNow\u2019s revenue growth guidance, according to the company.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Current remaining performance obligations up 27% to $7.43 billion <\/strong>\u2014 this leading indicator of revenue exceeded revenue growth \u201cguidance by 2.50 percentage points,\u201d the company noted.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Adjusted earnings per share:<\/strong> $2.92 \u2014 14.6% ahead of analyst estimates, <em>Yahoo! Finance<\/em> noted.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Free Cash Flow<\/strong><fbs-ticker data-name=\"FLOW\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/digital-assets\/assets\/flow-flow\/\" data-type=\"crypto\"><br \/>\n   FLOW<br \/>\n  <\/fbs-ticker> of $175 million, down 60.9% from the previous quarter, <em>Yahoo! Finance<\/em> reported.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Customers paying over $1 million:<\/strong> <strong>1,789<\/strong>, Yahoo! Finance noted.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Customers paying over $20 million:<\/strong> <strong>49<\/strong> \u2014 58% more than the year before, according to the company.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gross margin (GAAP):<\/strong> 78.3%, \u201cin line with the same quarter last year,\u201d wrote <em>Yahoo! Finance.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>2023 subscription revenue guidance<\/strong> <strong>in the range of $8.635 billion to $8.640 billion <\/strong>\u2014 implying 25% constant currency growth, the company noted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>ServiceNow was delighted with the report. \u201cServiceNow is an outlier for profitable growth. We are the only large capitalization enterprise software company that is higher than rule of 50 \u2014 [an industry rule of thumb is the sum of revenue growth rate plus free cash flow margin should be greater than 40]. We beat on subscription revenue, free cash flow, CRPO and operating margin,\u201d ServiceNow CEO Bill McDermott told me in an October 25 interview.<\/p>\n<p>ServiceNow is proud of its ability to grow through internally-generated new services. \u201cThe big message: Of five software companies with more than $10 billion in sales, Snowflake<fbs-ticker data-name=\"SNOW\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/companies\/snowflake\" data-type=\"stock\"><br \/>\n  SNOW<br \/>\n <\/fbs-ticker> is growing fastest and we are doing it organically. Innovation leads to growth. We have 5,000 new innovations. We are getting high value from Generative AI Lighthouse across all industries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\">ServiceNow Aims Lighthouse At $1 Trillion Generative AI Opportunity<\/h2>\n<p>ServiceNow\u2019s Lighthouse service \u2014 a Generative-AI powered set of industry-specific services to boost productivity \u2014 opens up a significant growth opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>ServiceNow estimates Generative AI could add $1 trillion to the company\u2019s total addressable market. \u201cGartner<fbs-ticker data-name=\"IT\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/companies\/gartner\" data-type=\"stock\"><br \/>\n  IT<br \/>\n <\/fbs-ticker> says $3 trillion will be invested in IT between 2023 and 2027. $1 trillion of that will go into Generative AI. This adds to Snowflake\u2019s current TAM of $200 billion,\u201d McDermott said.<\/p>\n<p>Lighthouse aims to boost the productivity of companies in by tailoring applications to their specific industries. As I wrote in July, ServiceNow uses Generative AI in its own operations and hopes to offer companies insights from its own experience.<\/p>\n<p>McDermott struck me as very excited about Lighthouse\u2019s potential. \u201cWe are partnering with Nvidia\u2019s CEO Jensen Huang and Accenture<fbs-ticker data-name=\"ACN\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/companies\/accenture\" data-type=\"stock\"><br \/>\n  ACN<br \/>\n <\/fbs-ticker> to bring the best engineering talent to provide companies with high payoff Generative AI applications for their customers and frictionless employee onboarding,\u201d he told me in July.<\/p>\n<p>Industry-specific solutions include case summarization \u2014 which uses GAI \u201cto read and distill case information across IT, HR, and customer service cases,\u201d according to ServiceNow.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the company said it offers text to code, text to workflow and a natural language human interface, to improve operations in industries including telecommunications, financial services, public sector, and manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>In the third quarter, ServiceNow won customers. \u201cOur clients include CBRE, Nvidia, and Deloitte that went to Generative AI in September. We have Phillips, FedEx<fbs-ticker data-name=\"FDX\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/companies\/fedex\" data-type=\"stock\"><br \/>\n  FDX<br \/>\n <\/fbs-ticker>, Mars, Bank of California, U.S. Department of Defense, and Ashahi Mutual,\u201d McDermott told me.<\/p>\n<p>ServiceNow says its services meet an important customer need: to boost productivity \u201cin the face of macroeconomic crosswinds,\u201d he said. \u201cWe deliver 30% employee productivity by replacing 13 application platforms with one ServiceNow platform. We replace bad customer service with customer self-service. We enable text to code. It\u2019s all happening with ServiceNow. [Our clients] are achieving operational excellence, their costs are going down, productivity and revenue are rising\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ServiceNow uses its product internally. \u201cPeople ask how we generate so much free cash flow. I tell them we use our own software. We are doing 15 Generative AI pilots and we are seeing significant improvement,\u201d McDermott concluded.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\">What\u2019s Next For Service Now Stock?<\/h2>\n<p>Wall Street expects ServiceNow stock to rise. The 33 analysts offering 12-month price forecasts for ServiceNow have a median target of $650 \u2014 implying 17.4% upside, according to <em data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/quote\/forecast\/forecast.html?symb=now#:~:text=Stock%20Price%20Forecast,the%20last%20price%20of%20553.84.\">CNN Business<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>One analyst suggests the company is undervalued \u2014 with a price target of $730 \u2014 as its fundamentals are improving in the face of macroeconomic headwinds. Analyst Dair Sansyzbayev used a discounted cash flow analysis to estimate ServiceNow\u2019s fair value at about $150 billion \u2014 representing 35% upside potential.<\/p>\n<p>He sees considerable strength in the company \u2014 while remaining concerned about how macroeconomic headwinds could hurt the stock. The company\u2019s \u201cfundamentals are improving even in the current unfavorable environment with several macro headwinds. The management continues successfully delivering stellar revenue growth, profitability improvement, and massive reinvestments in innovation.
