The burger chain wars are heating up this Halloween.\u00a0<\/p>\n

McDonald\u2019s
\n MCD,
\n -1.59%<\/bg-quote>
\n is bringing its \u201cBoo Buckets\u201d back this month, swapping out its familiar Happy Meal boxes with plastic trick-or-treat pails for a limited time in October.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The burger chain recently revealed that its beloved Boo Buckets will be back at participating McDonald\u2019s restaurants beginning Oct. 17, just two weeks before Halloween. The collectible designs include an orange skeleton, white mummy, green monster and a purple vampire, and they will be available until Oct. 31 while supplies last.\u00a0Prices will vary by location, but Happy Meals usually run $4 to $7 apiece. You won\u2019t pay extra for the bucket, however, since the pail is replacing the toy that you would usually get with a Happy Meal.<\/p>\n

The Boo Buckets had been an annual, seasonal McDonald\u2019s staple, similar to the St. Patrick\u2019s Day-themed Shamrock Shake, since the mid-1980s, but dropped off the menu in 2016 before bring bought back with fanfare last year. <\/p>\n

Their 2022 return delighted plenty of customers. <\/p>\n

And this year\u2019s announcement led \u201cMcDonald\u2019s,\u201d \u201cHalloween\u201d and \u201cHappy Meal\u201d to trend among real-time Google searches on Sunday, with queries for \u201cMcDonald\u2019s Halloween Boo Buckets\u201d spiking 800% over the past week, as of Sunday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ll be gone faster than you can say \u2018boo,\u2019 so head to your local McDonald\u2019s to get a festive pail while supplies last,\u201d the company said in a press release.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But rival Burger King is getting in on the action with its own plastic pails \u2014 dubbed \u201cTrick or Heat\u201d buckets \u2014 which will drop in select markets four days before McDonald\u2019s buckets so, on Friday the 13th.\u00a0<\/p>\n

These limited-edition, glow-in-the-dark buckets were inspired by the Restaurant Brands International-owned
\n QSR,
\n -2.11%<\/bg-quote>
\n chain\u2019s spicy ghost-pepper dishes (including the \u201cGhost Pepper Whopper,\u201d which is making a comeback this fall), and the black buckets feature white ghost peppers redesigned to look like ghosts. They will be available for $1 in a few cities, Today.com reported, including: Nashville, Tennessee; Las Vegas, Nevada; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Atlanta, Georgia. You can also ask for a matching cardboard crown.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fast-food restaurants aren\u2019t the only places getting into the Halloween spirit.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pumpkin-spice season is already in full swing, with Starbucks

\n and Dunkin\u2019 pouring their autumnal lattes and other coffee drinks already, and food and beverage makers rolling out everything from pumpkin-spice flavored vodka to PSL applesauce and cheese.
