It\u2019s the last jobs report before the Federal Reserve\u2019s next interest-rate decision due on November 1. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd since pricing for another rate hike this year has kept oscillating above and below 50% (currently 38% this morning), today\u2019s reading will be important in determining if another hike remains on the table,\u201d said Henry Allen, a strategist at Deutsche Bank.<\/p>\n<p>The stock market has been yanked around this week by labor market data, falling sharply on a report showing a surprise rise in job openings, then rising on a report of slowing private sector payrolls from ADP, and then easing once more after another low reading on weekly jobless benefit claims.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the jobs report, a report in the Wall Street Journal that Exxon Mobil<br \/>\n        XOM,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/204455864\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-2.25%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       is near a $60 billion deal buy shale oil driller Pioneer Natural Resources<br \/>\n        PXD,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/206736173\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.17%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       may color energy stocks on Friday. <\/p>\n<h2>Single stock movers<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"articleList\">\n<li>\n      <strong>Pioneer Natural Resources <\/strong><br \/>\n        PXD,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/206736173\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.17%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       shares soared by 10% following a report in the Wall Street Journal that Exxon Mobil is closing in on a deal to buy the Texan  shale driller for about $60 billion. Exxon Mobil<br \/>\n        XOM,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/204455864\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-2.25%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       shares fell almost 2%.  <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      <strong>Coca-Cola Co.<\/strong><br \/>\n        KO,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209159848\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-4.83%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and <strong>PepsiCo Inc.<\/strong><br \/>\n        PEP,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/208744353\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-5.22%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n      \u00a0slumped after Walmart Inc.\u2019s U.S. chief executive said the new class of weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy were causing customers to buy fewer groceries and cut back on those that are high in calories.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      <strong>Levi Strauss &amp; Co.<\/strong> LEVI dropped 2% after the retailer late Thursday cut its outlook for the full year and its executives noted a \u201ccontinued softness in the wholesale channel, primarily in the U.S.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n       <strong>Tesla <\/strong><br \/>\n        TSLA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203558040\/lastsale\" class=\"negative\">-0.43%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       fell 1% after the automobile maker cut the price of its Model 3 cars from $40,240 to $38,990 and dropped the cost of its model Y electric vehicles from $50,990 to $45,990 in the U.S. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n       <strong>Philips<\/strong><br \/>\n        PHG,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/200778575\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.56%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       shares dropped 8% after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration  called for more testing of its recalled sleep and respiratory devices, following concerns about foam used in millions of recalled products.  <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Read the full article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/s-p-500-futures-hold-to-tight-range-before-jobs-report-df2945a8?mod=markets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. stock index futures were slightly higher early Friday ahead of the September jobs report.
