{"id":65528,"date":"2023-09-26T05:57:31","date_gmt":"2023-09-26T09:57:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/markets\/sp-500-futures-slide-as-treasury-yields-hit-fresh-16-year-highs\/"},"modified":"2023-09-26T05:57:33","modified_gmt":"2023-09-26T09:57:33","slug":"sp-500-futures-slide-as-treasury-yields-hit-fresh-16-year-highs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/?p=65528","title":{"rendered":"S&#038;P 500 futures slide as Treasury yields hit fresh 16-year highs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"js-article__body\" itemprop=\"articleBody\" data-sbid=\"WP-MKTW-0002544774\" role=\"document\">\n<p>U.S. stock futures fell early Tuesday as Treasury yields hit fresh cycle highs and Chinas\u2019 property woes rattled global sentiment.<\/p>\n<h2>How are stock-index futures trading<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"articleList\">\n<li>\n      S&amp;P 500 futures<br \/>\n        ES00,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209948968\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-0.50%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       dipped 26 points, or 0.6% to 4353<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      Dow Jones Industrial Average futures<br \/>\n        DJIA<br \/>\n       fell 181 points, or 0.5% to 34092<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      Nasdaq 100 futures<br \/>\n        NQ00,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210219788\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-0.57%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       eased 93 points, or 0.6% to 14842<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average<br \/>\n        DJIA<br \/>\n       rose 43 points, or 0.13%, to 34007, the S&amp;P 500<br \/>\n        SPX<br \/>\n       increased 17 points, or 0.4%, to 4337, and the Nasdaq Composite<br \/>\n        COMP<br \/>\n       gained 60 points, or 0.45%, to 13271.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n<h2>What\u2019s driving markets<\/h2>\n<p>The prospect of borrowing costs staying higher for longer continued to pressure equities. <\/p>\n<p>The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield rose a couple of basis points to near 4.57% early Tuesday, the most since 2007, as the market continued to price in hawkish interest rate projections from the Federal Reserve.<\/p>\n<p>Many Fed officials in recent days have reiterated they believe the central bank will need to increase rates again and keep them at elevated levels for some time. <\/p>\n<p>Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase warned the market is not ready for interest rates that could go to 7% if inflationary pressures are not sufficiently contained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[R]isky assets, particularly long-duration stocks, have struggled to absorb these rate increases\u2026the correlation between equity prices and bond yields has turned negative again, reflecting the \u2018good news is bad news\u2019 sentiment in the U.S.,\u201d said Stephen Innes, managing partner at SPI Asset Management.<\/p>\n<p>Higher Treasury yields relative to their international peers were lifting the U.S. dollar, with the dollar index moving above 106, to its highest in about 10 months. A surging dollar can also act as a headwind for U.S. equities, partly by making multinationals less competitive.<\/p>\n<p>Also, not helping the mood was nervousness across Asian bourses amid increased worries about China\u2019s property sector. Shares in China Evergrande<br \/>\n        3333,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/208605330\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-8.14%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       plunged afresh after the heavily indebted developer missed a debt payment and former executives were detained by the authorities.
