Stocks traded higher Monday as Wall Street began the last week of September, which has been a tough month for equities. Investors will be keying in on U.S. inflation data at the end or the week and monitoring negotiations in Congress over avoiding a government shutdown.<\/p>\n

These stocks were making moves Monday:\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n

Striking writers reached a tentative agreement with Hollywood studios that would end a strike that lasted nearly five months. The Writers Guild of America announced the three-year deal in a statement: \u201cWe can say, with great pride, that this deal is exceptional\u2014with meaningful gains and protections for writers in every sector of the membership.\u201d Media stocks were mixed.
\n Paramount Global
\n (PARA) rose 0.2%, while
\n Warner Bros. Discovery
\n (WBD) slid 4%,
\n Netflix
\n (NFLX) gained 1.2%,
\n Walt Disney
\n (DIS) was down 0.3%, and
\n Amazon.com
\n (AMZN) rose 1.7%. Warner Bros. was the leading decliner of the
\n S&P 500.<\/span>\n <\/p>\n

\n Amazon,<\/span>
\n meanwhile, will be investing up to $4 billion in artificial-intelligence company Anthropic. Amazon will be taking a minority stake in Anthropic. Amazon\u2019s cloud customers will get early access to Anthropic\u2019s technology through Amazon Bedrock, the company\u2019s AI platform for businesses, and Amazon Web Services will become Anthropic\u2019s primary cloud provider.<\/p>\n

\n Williams-Sonoma
\n (WSM) rose 12% after private-equity firm Green Equity Investors disclosed in a securities filing that it took a 5% ownership stake in the home goods retailer.<\/p>\n

\n Alcoa
\n (AA) dropped 6.1% after the maker of aluminum products said it appointed Chief Operating Officer William Oplinger to the role of chief executive, effective Sept. 24. <\/p>\n

\n Opendoor Technologies
\n (OPEN) dropped 5.5% after
\n Citi
\n analysts slashed their price target on the real estate company to $2.70 from $3.90. <\/p>\n

\n Steel Dynamics
\n (STLD) and
\n Cleveland-Cliffs
\n (CLF) gained 3.3% and 2.9%, respectively, after both steel makers were upgraded to Buy from Hold at Citi.
\n Steel Dynamics
\n was the top performer in the
\n S&P 500.<\/span>\n <\/p>\n

\n Sealed Air
\n (SEE) gained 3.5% after the containers and packing company was upgraded to Buy from Neutral at Citi. <\/p>\n

\n Instacart
\n (CART) rose 1.2%. Shares of the grocery-delivery app, officially known as Maplebear, were initiated at Wolfe Research on Monday with a Peer Perform rating and a fair value range of $24 to $42 a share. Analysts at BTIG on Friday picked up coverage of Instacart with a Neutral rating.\u00a0The stock went public last Tuesday at $30 a share and opened for trading at $42. But
\n Instacart
\n shares have been falling since their strong trading debut. <\/p>\n

\n CarMax
\n (KMX) rose 1.4% after shares of the used-car seller were upgraded to Outperform from Neutral at Wedbush and the price target was increased to $90 from $85.<\/p>\n

American depositary receipts of
\n NIO
\n (
\n NIO
\n ) fell 2.2% after Bloomberg reported that the Chinese electric-vehicle maker was weighing raising $3 billion from investors. NIO, however, said in a statement it \u201ccurrently has no reportable capital raising activity\u201d other than a completion of a convertible notes offering.<\/p>\n

\n Thor Industries
\n (THO), the recreational-vehicle maker, is scheduled to report quarterly earnings after the closing bell Monday. Reports are expected later in the week from
