{"id":60065,"date":"2023-09-12T12:30:15","date_gmt":"2023-09-12T16:30:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/markets\/commodities\/panama-canal-to-further-reduce-daily-transits-if-drought-continues\/"},"modified":"2023-09-12T12:30:17","modified_gmt":"2023-09-12T16:30:17","slug":"panama-canal-to-further-reduce-daily-transits-if-drought-continues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/?p=60065","title":{"rendered":"Panama Canal to further reduce daily transits if drought continues"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>(Reuters) &#8211; The Panama Canal said on Tuesday it could further reduce the maximum amount of vessel transits authorized per day if a drought that has hit the waterway this year continues.<\/p>\n<p>The canal began restricting vessel draft and authorized daily passage earlier this year to conserve water, which have triggered a backlog of ships waiting to pass the key global waterway, which handles an estimated 5% of world trade. <\/p>\n<p>The measures have contributed to more expensive freight costs ahead of the approaching Christmas season.<\/p>\n<p>Up to 32 vessels are currently authorized to pass every day, from 36 ships in normal conditions.
