{"id":57119,"date":"2023-09-05T10:54:11","date_gmt":"2023-09-05T14:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/markets\/treasury-yields-edge-higher-amid-concerns-about-stubborn-inflationary-pressures\/"},"modified":"2023-09-05T10:54:13","modified_gmt":"2023-09-05T14:54:13","slug":"treasury-yields-edge-higher-amid-concerns-about-stubborn-inflationary-pressures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/?p=57119","title":{"rendered":"Treasury yields edge higher amid concerns about stubborn inflationary pressures"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"js-article__body\" itemprop=\"articleBody\" data-sbid=\"WP-MKTW-0002469499\" role=\"document\">\n<p>Six-month through 30-year Treasury yields rose Tuesday morning as revived inflation angst trumped concerns about  a slowing global economy.<\/p>\n<h2>What\u2019s happening<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"articleList\">\n<li>\n      The yield on the 2-year Treasury<br \/>\n        BX:TMUBMUSD02Y<br \/>\n       rose 5.8 basis points to 4.924% from 4.866% on Friday.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      The yield on the 10-year Treasury<br \/>\n        BX:TMUBMUSD10Y<br \/>\n       climbed 7.6 basis points to 4.249% from 4.173% Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      The yield on the 30-year Treasury<br \/>\n        BX:TMUBMUSD30Y<br \/>\n       rose 8.8 basis points to 4.373% from 4.285% on Friday.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      U.S. financial markets were closed on Monday for the Labor Day holiday.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What\u2019s driving markets<\/h2>\n<p>U.S. investors returned from the Labor Day holiday weekend facing news that China\u2019s service sector activity grew at its slowest pace in eight months in August, and a gauge of business activity in the eurozone hit its lowest since November 2020.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n<p>The batch of weak economic data from China and Europe was shrugged off by fixed-income traders, with bond yields moving higher as inflation concerns held sway.  Investors focused on last Friday\u2019s nonfarm payrolls report that showed the U.S. labor market still in good health, and comments from Cleveland Federal Reserve President Loretta Mester, who said inflation remains too high.<\/p>\n<p>Brent crude futures<br \/>\n        BRN00,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209704782\/delayed\" class=\"positive\">+0.73%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       jumped above $90 a barrel after Saudi Arabia and Russia extended crude-supply cuts. Higher oil prices are adding to anxiety that inflationary pressures will be revived and force the Fed to keep interest rates higher for longer.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with CNBC Tuesday, Federal Reserve Gov. Christopher Waller said policy makers can afford to \u201cproceed carefully\u201d with interest-rate increases. <\/p>\n<p>Markets are pricing in a 95% probability that the Fed will leave interest rates unchanged at a range of 5.25%-5.5% on Sept. 20, according to the CME FedWatch Tool.
