El Salvador\u2019s Bitcoin City has reportedly attracted its first international \u201cresident,\u201d with an American bitcoiner moving to the area where the city is being constructed.<\/p>\n

Per the government-aligned newspaper Diario El Salvador, the man\u2019s name is Corbin Keegan.<\/p>\n

He was described as \u201can American bitcoiner who has […] settled on one of the beaches of Conchagua, in La Uni\u00f3n.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conchagua is the proposed site of Bitcoin City, an in-development tax-free haven for international bitcoiners.<\/p>\n

Work has already begun on an airport project that will serve the city.<\/p>\n

The media outlet reported that Keegan had been \u201cattracted\u201d to the nation by President Nayib Bukele\u2019s \u201cannouncement about the construction of Bitcoin City.\u201d<\/p>\n

Keegan claimed that he had \u201cbrought forward his arrival to the country\u201d and was \u201clooking forward to seeing the evolution of the project.\u201d<\/p>\n

El Salvador: Bitcoin Beach Inspiration?<\/h2>\n

The American said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe that this place is going to be the best city on Earth, and it is going to be better than some can imagine. I am the first bitcoiner to arrive [in Conchagua], but I do know that there are many on El Zonte beach.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

El Zonte, also known as Bitcoin Beach, was the first major BTC-powered community to thrive in El Salvador.<\/p>\n

It has been credited as providing the inspiration for Bukele\u2019s eventual adoption of Bitcoin as legal tender in September 2021.<\/p>\n

Keegan added:<\/p>\n

\u201cI came here because, of all the places I saw in El Salvador, this was my favorite.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The media outlet noted that Keegan had \u201cquickly gained\u201d affection from \u201cthe community\u2019s residents\u201d and was keen to point out that he \u201cproudly sports an El Salvador shirt.\u201d<\/p>\n

And, despite the fact that he reportedly \u201cdoes not speak Spanish very well,\u201d Keegen reportedly \u201ctries to start conversations with his neighbors.\u201d<\/p>\n

Indeed, Keegan has updated his X (Twitter) page to show his location as \u201cConchagua, El Salvador.\u201d<\/p>\n

But his X page is also replete with posts that many groups, possibly including many of his new neighbors and the newspaper\u2019s readers, could find offensive and reprehensible.<\/p>\n

These include antisemitic sentiments.<\/p>\n

Keegan has also posted seemingly far-fetched and unfounded claims about the dangers of coronavirus vaccinations.<\/p>\n

Cryptonews.com<\/i> has approached the newspaper for comment.<\/p>\n

Regardless, the media outlet seemingly celebrated the fact that Keegan had taken up residence with a family that works in the fishing industry, and that the \u201cnew member of the household\u201d supports the family \u201cwith their daily activities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Keegan noted:<\/p>\n

\u201cBitcoin […] is going to be used on a global scale, and everyone has to adapt, like El Salvador, which is the [\u2026] cradle.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He concluded that he pays for goods and services \u201conly in Bitcoin, as much as I can,\u201d but conceded that there are \u201csome places where it cannot be used.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
