{"id":55630,"date":"2023-09-01T05:56:57","date_gmt":"2023-09-01T09:56:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/markets\/u-s-stock-futures-edge-higher-ahead-of-data-that-could-show-hiring-slowdown\/"},"modified":"2023-09-01T05:56:59","modified_gmt":"2023-09-01T09:56:59","slug":"u-s-stock-futures-edge-higher-ahead-of-data-that-could-show-hiring-slowdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/?p=55630","title":{"rendered":"U.S. stock futures edge higher ahead of data that could show hiring slowdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"js-article__body\" itemprop=\"articleBody\" data-sbid=\"WP-MKTW-0002463925\" role=\"document\">\n<p>U.S. stock futures pointed higher on Friday, ahead of data that could show a slowing pace of hiring, which would reassure investors that the Federal Reserve won\u2019t take interest rates much higher.<\/p>\n<h2>What\u2019s happening<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"articleList\">\n<li>\n      Dow Jones Industrial Average futures<br \/>\n        YM00,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210407078\/delayed\" class=\"positive\">+0.37%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       rose 78 points, or 0.2%, to 34869.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      S&amp;P 500 futures<br \/>\n        ES00,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209948968\/delayed\" class=\"positive\">+0.30%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       gained 9 points, or 0.2%, to 4525.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      Nasdaq 100 futures<br \/>\n        NQ00,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210219788\/delayed\" class=\"positive\">+0.16%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       increased 12 points, or 0.1%, to 15551.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On Thursday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average<br \/>\n        DJIA<br \/>\n       fell 168 points, or 0.48%, to 34722, the S&amp;P 500<br \/>\n        SPX<br \/>\n       declined 7 points, or 0.16%, to 4508, while the Nasdaq Composite<br \/>\n        COMP<br \/>\n       gained 16 points, or 0.11%, to 14035.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n<h2>What\u2019s driving<\/h2>\n<p>Ahead of Friday\u2019s barrage of heavy-hitting economic data, U.S. stocks saw modest pressure, as inflation data was largely benign but jobless claims dented an emerging picture of an economic slowdown. Dollar General\u2019s<br \/>\n        DG,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/200691429\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-12.15%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       profit warning, however, pointed to a consumer under pressure.<\/p>\n<p>Friday will see the release of nonfarm payrolls data at 8:30 a.m. Eastern, with expectations that 170,000 jobs were created in August. That would be the weakest showing since Dec. 2020, a month that saw 268,000 jobs lost.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere have been indicators that the U.S. jobs market is finally starting to lose some of its tightness, and if the NFP print confirms this trend, it will be one less thing for the FOMC to worry about given labor market resilience has long been a source of inflationary pressure,\u201d said Tim Waterer, chief market analyst at KCM Trade.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s also the Institute for Supply Management\u2019s manufacturing index, as well as monthly auto sales, that will get released. Thursday\u2019s after hours releases saw mixed responses, with Dell Technologies<br \/>\n        DELL,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203822527\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.99%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       stock rallying but Broadcom shares<br \/>\n        AVGO,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/200646538\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+3.43%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       wilting after results.<\/p>\n<p>In China, August Caixin manufacturing PMI came in above expectations, rising to 51, a level that indicates improving conditions, as the country also lowered down-payment requirements on homes.
