She entertained everyone from Eleanor Roosevelt to Laurence Olivier here.<\/p>\n<p>Sawyer and Nichols bought the place in 1995 and continued hosting cultural and political events there.<\/p>\n<p>Over their long ownership, they made some thoughtful updates with the help of neoclassicist architect Eric Gugler, while taking care to preserve the estate\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<p>Designed for large-scale entertaining, with its near half-mile of sandy beach overlooking Vineyard Sound, the property is outfitted with a pool and a tennis court.<\/p>\n<p>Sawyer, 77, has anchored \u201cABC World News Tonight,\u201d \u201d 20\/20,\u201d and \u201cGood Morning America,\u201d among others. Nichols directed such iconic films as \u201cThe Graduate,\u201d \u201cWho\u2019s Afraid of Virginia Woolf,\u201d and \u201cCatch-22.\u201d He\u2019s in the elite club of Hollywood legends who have won the elusive EGOT: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards. Nichols died in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The listing agent is Mark Jenkins, of Wallace and Co.
