More Chinese firms are using the digital yuan, the nation\u2019s central bank digital currency (CBDC), to access funding for \u201cgreen\u201d business projects.<\/p>\n

Per Nanfang Daily News (via SouthCN), an electronics firm in Guangdong Province, Southeast China, became the first company in the province to access a digital yuan-powered \u201cgreen finance\u201d loan as \u201capplication scenarios of the digital yuan continue to expand.\u201d<\/p>\n

The firm, which is named Zhongshan Jewelly Optoelectronics Technology, appears to have obtained its financing package from the Guangzhou Branch of the central People\u2019s Bank of China (PBoC).<\/p>\n

The package is worth over $276,000 and was issued to the company\u2019s corporate digital yuan wallet.<\/p>\n

Zhongshan Jewelly specializes in LED devices and modules, and produces a range of energy-saving lamp chips.<\/p>\n

The firm, which is based in the city of Zhongshan, said:<\/p>\n

\u201cRecently, our orders have increased and capital demand is also high. This digital CNY green loan funding provides us with a new way of financing and making settlements.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The media outlet quoted \u201cindustry insiders\u201d as stating that the application of digital yuan in the field of green finance could allow banks to exercise \u201cprecise control over the flow of funds.\u201d<\/p>\n

They added that this would help \u201censure the authenticity and credibility of the closed-loop circulation of green financial funds.\u201d<\/p>\n

China Expands Digital Yuan \u2018Green Finance\u2019 Options<\/h2>\n

The \u201cindustry insiders\u201d added that the PBoC coin\u2019s traceability functions would \u201cprevent green funding loans from being [\u2026] misappropriated.\u201d<\/p>\n

They added that it would also help slash the \u201chigh costs\u201d for banks, who typically have to spend a great deal of money on \u201cmonitoring the flow of green financing funds.\u201d<\/p>\n

And the insiders claimed that firms also stood to benefit.<\/p>\n

They said enterprises could use the digital CNY \u201cfor payments and settlements\u201d without needing to \u201cpay handling fees and service fees.\u201d<\/p>\n

Funding also arrive \u201carrives in real-time,\u201d and helps \u201creduce the capital cost of enterprises, as well as improving the efficiency of capital turnover.\u201d<\/p>\n

Guangdong Province joined the digital yuan pilot in December 2022.<\/p>\n

The Guangzhou Branch of the PBoC said that the it would seek to realize more digital yuan-powered green loans, and \u201cexpand the application scope of the digital yuan in the field of green financing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last week, Hunan Province\u2019s Tax Bureau and the Changsha wing of the PBoC claimed that in the period January to June 2023, individuals and companies based in the province used the token to pay some $51.3 million worth of taxes.<\/p>\n

And last month, Industrial Bank, a Fuzhou-based commercial bank, launched the country\u2019s first CBDC settlement service for bulk commodity trading at the Shanghai Clearing House.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
