Investing.com — The Dow closed higher Thursday, supported by a jump in Disney <\/span><\/span> after giving up the bulk of its gains as a climb in Treasury yields weighed on sentiment even as data showed further signs of easing inflation.<\/p>\n

The rose 0.2%, or 52 points, the was flat, and rose 0.1%.<\/p>\n

Inflation shows further signs of easing, but worries persist on closer inspection<\/h2>\n

The U.S. rose 0.2% in July, in line with economists\u2019 forecasts and unchanged from the pace seen in June, while annual inflation through July rose 3.2%, which was slower than expectations for 3.3%.<\/p>\n

CPI is \u201cgradually approaching a more comfortable level for the Federal Reserve, which will likely resume its interest rate pause,\u201d Desjardins said in a note.<\/p>\n

Treasury initially fell below the flatline before rebounding as a deeper look into the inflation report flagged a rise in core services ex-housing inflation, a closely watched measure for the Fed, which rose 0.2% after coming in flat in June.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe pickup in core services\u2026may create more headaches for policymakers,\u201d Jefferies said in a note.<\/p>\n

Disney\u2019s streaming price hikes offset Q3 revenue miss<\/h2>\n

Walt Disney (NYSE:) announced plans to raise the price on its ad-free streaming tier in October, stoking investor optimism on margin growth and easing concerns about weakness in streaming after the media giant reported Q3 revenue that of Wall Street estimates. Its share rose more than 4%.<\/p>\n

Disney+ subscribers fell to 146.1 million, missing estimates of 151.1 million, pressured by a 24% fall in Disney+ Hotstar subscribers.<\/p>\n

Wynn Resorts, Alibaba <\/span><\/span> shine on earnings stage<\/h2>\n

Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:) reported quarterly that topped Wall Street estimates on both the top and bottom lines buoyed by ongoing strength in its Macau business.<\/p>\n

Alibaba Group Holdings (NYSE:) rose more than 4% after reporting quarterly earnings that markedly analysts’ estimates.<\/p>\n

The Chinese tech heavyweight said that its plans to split the company into six businesses will be implemented from the quarter ended June 30.<\/p>\n

Capri surges on deal fever<\/h2>\n

Capri Holdings Ltd (NYSE:), which owns a host of well-known brands including Versace, Jimmy Choo, and Michael Kors, surged 54% after agreeing to sell the business to luxury company Tapestry (NYSE:) for $8.5 billion.<\/p>\n

The deal is expected to bolster Tapestry\u2019s ability to compete with European luxury fashion giants LVMH (OTC:) and Gucci.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
