{"id":46110,"date":"2023-08-08T20:55:01","date_gmt":"2023-08-09T00:55:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/news\/small-business-sentiment-bounces-back\/"},"modified":"2023-08-08T20:55:03","modified_gmt":"2023-08-09T00:55:03","slug":"small-business-sentiment-bounces-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/?p=46110","title":{"rendered":"Small Business Sentiment Bounces Back"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-test-id=\"content-container\">\n<p><figure class=\"getty-figure\" data-type=\"getty-image\"><picture>  <\/picture><figcaption> <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Small business sentiment from the NFIB\u2019s monthly survey rebounded in July, with the headline index reading 91.9 versus expectations of it rising only 0.3 points to 91.3.<\/p>\n<p>As shown below, small businesses are still reporting much weaker optimism than<span class=\"paywall-full-content invisible\"> pre-pandemic or even in the first year of the pandemic, but sentiment has been making steady improvements in recent months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall-full-content invisible\">\n<figure class=\"regular-img-figure paywall-full-content invisible\" contenteditable=\"false\"><picture> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/saupload_080823-NFIB-1.png\" alt=\"Small business sentiment from the NFIB\" contenteditable=\"false\" loading=\"lazy\"> <\/picture><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall-full-content invisible\">In the table below, we break down each category of the NFIB\u2019s survey. Again, the headline index remains historically low in the 14th percentile of readings. However, that is up from the 9th percentile last month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall-full-content invisible\">Most other categories that contribute to the optimism index also rose month over month, albeit there were multiple that went unchanged.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall-full-content invisible\">As a result of those moves, most categories remain at the low end of their historical ranges with a couple of exceptions: Plans to<span class=\"paywall-full-content no-summary-bullets invisible\"> Increase Employment and Job Openings Hard to Fill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall-full-content invisible no-summary-bullets\">Each of those readings are in the 76th and 94th percentiles, respectively. However, as we noted in today\u2019s Morning Lineup, overall this survey\u2019s employment metrics have pointed to softening of labor market activity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall-full-content invisible no-summary-bullets\">\n<figure class=\"regular-img-figure paywall-full-content invisible\" contenteditable=\"false\"><picture> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/saupload_080823-NFIB-1a.png\" alt=\"Small business sentiment from the NFIB\" contenteditable=\"false\" loading=\"lazy\"> <\/picture><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall-full-content invisible no-summary-bullets\">While several categories saw stronger readings in July, none rose more than Outlook for General Business conditions which jumped by 10 points month over month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall-full-content invisible no-summary-bullets\">That is the second 10-point increase in a row, which makes for the largest two-month increase since May 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall-full-content invisible no-summary-bullets\">Although that reading showed an increase in optimism which coincides with continued improvement in the number of firms reporting that inflation pressures have eased, readings on small businesses&#8217; actual operations were less rosy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall-full-content invisible no-summary-bullets\">Even though sales expectations were up, actual sales changes hit a new low of -13, the weakest since the spring of 2020, resulting in earnings changes to also drop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall-full-content invisible no-summary-bullets\">\n<figure class=\"regular-img-figure paywall-full-content invisible\" contenteditable=\"false\"><picture> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/saupload_080823-NFIB-2.png\" alt=\"Small business sentiment from the NFIB\" contenteditable=\"false\" loading=\"lazy\"> <\/picture><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall-full-content invisible no-summary-bullets\"><em>Original Post<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall-full-content invisible no-summary-bullets\"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Note:<\/strong> The summary bullets for this article were chosen by Seeking Alpha editors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Read the full article <a href=\"https:\/\/seekingalpha.com\/article\/4625657-small-business-sentiment-bounces-back?source=feed_all_articles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Small business sentiment from the NFIB\u2019s monthly survey rebounded in July, with the headline index reading 91.9 versus expectations of it rising only 0.3 points to 91.3.
