Crypto asset manager\u00a0Grayscale<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>believes the next President of the United States will support the development and implementation of a\u00a0central bank digital currency (CBDC)<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a\u00a0recent blog post, Grayscale argued that the current frontrunners in both political parties have expressed their favorable stance towards CBDCs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The company said that both\u00a0Joe Biden<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Donald Trump<\/strong>, who are currently leading in the 2024 presidential polls among their respective parties, have indicated their willingness to explore CBDCs.<\/p>\n

While the two candidates seem to agree on CBDC, their attitude towards Bitcoin is less enthusiastic.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump has publicly referred to Bitcoin as a “scam” and famously once tweeted that he was \u201cnot a fan of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, which are not money, and whose value is highly volatile and based on thin air.\u201d<\/p>\n

Likewise, Biden’s position can be inferred from his support for a 30% tax on Bitcoin mining, which could have had bad implications for the mining industry in the US.<\/p>\n

Grayscale did not provide further comment on Trump’s overall stance on crypto and digital assets, although it noted his apparent favorability towards\u00a0non-fungible tokens (NFTs)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As reported, Trump has\u00a0launched and sold two NFT collections\u00a0so far.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, evidence of Biden’s general support for digital assets can be found in his “Executive Order on Ensuring Responsible Development of Digital Assets.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, the 2023 Economic Report of the President, another White House document, did not express the same level of enthusiasm towards cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n

Crypto-Friendly Candidates Are Also Present<\/h2>\n

There are also some crypto-friendly candidates, including\u00a0Robert Kennedy Jr.<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Ron DeSantis<\/strong>, who are currently polling second in their respective parties.<\/p>\n

Just recently, Kennedy\u00a0<\/strong>revealed that he has purchased\u00a0two\u00a0Bitcoins (BTC)<\/strong>\u00a0for each of his seven children.<\/p>\n

The move came after he popularly endorsed Bitcoin during the\u00a0Miami Bitcoin Conference<\/strong>\u00a0held from May 18 to May 20 this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He referred to the cryptocurrency as an “exercise in democracy” during his\u00a0well-received keynote speech at the event, calling Bitcoin a \u201cbulwark\u201d against \u201cgovernment and corporate expansion and intrusion” at the time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cAs president, I will make sure that your right to hold and use Bitcoin is inviolable.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Notably, both Kennedy and DeSantos have also expressed their opposition to CBDC.<\/p>\n

Back in May, DeSantos\u00a0signed a bill\u00a0banning CBDCs in the state, prohibiting the use of CBDCs issued by other governments and calling on other states to use their commercial codes to institute similar prohibitions.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, there are also more pro-crypto candidates among the Republican contenders.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Vivek Ramaswamy<\/strong>, who Grayscale estimates has a 7% level of support compared to Trump’s 63%, is also considered pro-Bitcoin and anti-CBDC.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Republican Miami Mayor\u00a0Francis Suarez<\/strong>, known for his vocal support of crypto technology, has been labeled as the most passionate crypto advocate among all the candidates.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
