channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598065\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+1.06%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       rose .367 points, or 1.06%, to 34952, the S&amp;P 500<br \/>\n        SPX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210599714\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+0.71%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       increased 32 points, or 0.71%, to 4555, and the Nasdaq Composite<br \/>\n        COMP,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598365\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+0.76%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       gained 109 points, or 0.76%, to 14354.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n<h2>What\u2019s driving markets<\/h2>\n<p>Optimism that a well-received corporate earnings reporting season can help stocks extend their latest rally suggests the main Wall Street stock indexes in line for their highest open in 15-months on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p>Results from the banking sector, which kicked off the second quarter earnings season, have generally gone down well with investors, and Wednesday sees more financials reporting  in the form of Goldman Sachs<br \/>\n        GS,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209237603\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+3.08%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and U.S. Bancorp<br \/>\n        USB,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/206934678\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+3.66%<\/bg-quote><span>.<\/span>\n       <\/p>\n<p>After the closing bell some market darlings take the stage, with Tesla<br \/>\n        TSLA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203558040\/lastsale\" class=\"positive\">+1.02%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Netflix<br \/>\n        NFLX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202353025\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+5.50%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       presenting their figures.<\/p>\n<p>Also underpinning sentiment is hope that slowing inflation can help central banks soon stop increasing borrowing costs and that the interest rate rises to date have yet to badly damage the U.S. economy.<\/p>\n<p>On that front there was some better news from the U.K., where data showing consumer prices rose at their slowest pace in more than a year sparked not only a slide for the pound<br \/>\n        GBPUSD,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210561263\/realtime\/sampled\" class=\"negative\">-1.04%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       but also a drop in U.S.<br \/>\n        TMUBMUSD10Y,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.000%\" channel=\"\" class=\"\">3.757%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and European government bond yields, and to a lesser extent a brief uptick in S&amp;P 500 index futures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarkets took some solace from the latest corporate and economic news, with hopeful signs that runaway inflation may be abating,\u201d said Richard Hunter, head of markets at interactive investor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the U.S., the likelihood of a further interest rate rise next week from the Federal Reserve is all but a done deal, although more recent indicators suggest that the hike could mark the end of its aggressive monetary tightening offensive. The current reporting season is off to a strong start, albeit against low expectations, pointing to an economy which has yet to suffer from the rising interest rate environment, Hunter added.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Newton, head of technical strategy at Fundstrat, said the stock market\u2019s recent gains means a period of consolidation may be nearing, but that the technical set up remains positive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[I]t remains difficult to get too bearish when DJIA and [the Dow Jones Transportation Average ] have just broken out to the highest levels since last spring while key index constituents like<br \/>\n        MSFT,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/207732364\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+3.98%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       have just broken out to new all-time high territory. It\u2019s necessary to await the reversal. At present, as discussed above, market structure is improving, not deteriorating. The next 7-9 trading days of July should offer some clues in this regard,\u201d said Newton.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. economic updates set for release on Wednesday include housing starts and building permits for June, due at 8:30 a.m. Eastern.<\/p>\n<h2>Companies in focus<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"articleList\">\n<li>\n       <strong>Interactive Brokers Group Inc.<\/strong><br \/>\n        IBKR,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/208880397\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+2.95%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       slid 5% after the online banking company reported fiscal second-quarter results that fell short of analysts\u2019 estimates. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n       <strong>United Community Banks Inc.<\/strong><br \/>\n        UCBI,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203822333\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+3.78%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       fell 6.1% after the regional bank reported second-quarter results that came up short of estimates, as competition to attract new customers drove up costs.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n       <strong>Carvana Co. <\/strong><br \/>\n        CVNA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/206651606\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+8.95%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       fell 7% early Wednesday after the online auto retailer spooked markets by fast-forwarding its second-quarter report to before the bell Wednesday, a full two weeks ahead of schedule.   <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n       <strong>AT&amp;T<\/strong><br \/>\n        T,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203165245\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.59%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and <strong>Verizon Communications<\/strong><br \/>\n        VZ,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/204980236\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+2.57%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       each saw their stock rise by 3%.
