{"id":37366,"date":"2023-07-18T15:13:33","date_gmt":"2023-07-18T19:13:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/markets\/crypto\/sec-chair-gary-gensler-expresses-disappointment-over-ripple-court-ruling-continues-evaluation\/"},"modified":"2023-07-18T15:13:35","modified_gmt":"2023-07-18T19:13:35","slug":"sec-chair-gary-gensler-expresses-disappointment-over-ripple-court-ruling-continues-evaluation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/?p=37366","title":{"rendered":"SEC Chair Gary Gensler Expresses Disappointment Over Ripple Court Ruling, Continues Evaluation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chair Gary Gensler has said he is \u201cdisappointed\u201d in a court ruling that declared that Ripple\u2019s XRP token is \u201cnot in and of itself\u201d a security.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at an event hosted by the National Press Club in Washington DC on Monday, Gensler said that although he is \u201cpleased\u201d that the court ruling protects institutional investors by pushing back at the so-called fair notice argument in the Ripple case, he is disappointed on behalf of retail investors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While disappointed on what they said about retail investors, we\u2019re still looking at it and assessing that opinion,&#8221; Gensler, who has led an aggressive crackdown on the crypto sector during his time as SEC chair, said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media\"><oembed data-embedo-height=\"400\" data-embedo-url=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xR4l5F8fLRU\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/oembed><\/figure>\n<p>The comments came on the back of a court ruling that said XRP should not necessarily be seen as an \u201cinvestment contract\u201d or security.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the ruling said the classification of the XRP token would depend on what context it is used in.<\/p>\n<p>The ruling also made clear that Ripple\u2019s \u201cprogrammatic\u201d sales of XRP, the use of trading algorithms by the firm to sell tokens it holds on exchanges, did not constitute a securities offering.<\/p>\n<h2>Crypto crackdown to continue<\/h2>\n<p>Commenting on the future, Gensler said the push to clean up the crypto sector in the US will continue regardless of the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo what\u2019s next?
