Starting at US$10,000, 28 bids were placed between June 30 and Sunday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n<p>The final price is triple that of the previous record iPhone sale, which was an 8GB version of the same phone that LCG Auctions sold in February for US$63,356.<\/p>\n<p>When Apple first released the iPhone in June 2007, the smartphone was offered with either 4GB or 8GB of memory. The 4GB proved to be much less popular than its 8GB counterpart, so Apple discontinued it within a few months to offer a 16GB iPhone instead, making 4GB original iPhones particularly rare, according to a news release from LCG Auctions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite\u2026the hundreds of contacts we\u2019ve had with consumers who thought they had a factory-sealed original iPhone, this is the only 4GB factory-sealed version to surface,\u201d said Mark Montero, founder of LCG Auctions. \u201cBased upon our recent record-setting sales and the fact that the 4GB model is probably 20-times rarer than the 8GB version, we are not surprised it established a new record price, but surpassing the US$190,000 mark was quite surprising.\u201d<\/p>\n<div data-layout=\"wrap\n              \" data-layout-mobile=\"\" class=\"\n        media-object\n        type-InsetMediaIllustration\n          wrap\n  article__inset\n        article__inset--type-InsetMediaIllustration\n          article__inset--wrap\n  \"><\/p>\n<figure class=\"\n        media-object-image\n        enlarge-image\n        img-wrap\n        article__inset__image\n      \" itemscope=\"\" itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/ImageObject\"><\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom:140.68857589984353%;\" data-subtype=\"photo\" class=\"image-container  responsive-media article__inset__image__image\"><\/div>\n<\/figure><\/div>\n<p>The consignor, who was a part of Apple\u2019s original engineering team when the iPhone first launched, kept the iPhone and its box in pristine condition. The item listing notes that the packaging is \u201cvirtually flawless,\u201d with a clean factory seal and correct seam details and tightness. The phone, which was priced at US$499 for 4GB and US$599 for 8GB in 2007, has the iconic touchscreen and a two-megapixel camera.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In addition to this iPhone and the February sale, LCG Auctions sold an original 8GB iPhone last October for US$39,340, which was also a record at the time.<\/p>\n<p>The 4GB model was a part of LCG\u2019s 2023 Summer Premier Auction, which offered three other original iPhones: an 8GB model, a 16GB model, and an 8GB version from Europe\u2019s initial release, all factory-sealed.
