Excitement is building ahead of the eagerly anticipated Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, which hits theaters on July 21.<\/p>\n

Early reviews of the movie from acclaimed director Greta Gerwig have been glowing, with Joseph Deckelmeier of Screen Rant describing the film as \u201cfunny, bombastic, & very smart\u201d on Twitter. \u201cGreta Gerwig aims for the fences & hits a home-run,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Variety\u2019s social-media editor Katcy Stephan described the movie as \u201cperfection.\u201d<\/p>\n

A global marketing blitz has generated massive buzz around Warner Bros. Discovery Inc.\u2019s
\n WBD,
\n -5.34%<\/bg-quote>
\n \u201cBarbie,\u201d which had its world premiere in Los Angeles on Sunday. The movie has the potential to boost a number of stocks, experts say.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverywhere you look, Barbie pink is the new black,\u201d Dave Bruno,\u00a0director of retail-market insights at\u00a0retail-technology company Aptos, said in a statement. \u201cThe retail world is covered in that iconic pink, and I\u2019m here for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

A key beneficiary is toy maker Mattel Inc.
\n MAT,
\n -1.74%<\/bg-quote>,<\/span>
\n according to Bruno. \u201cMattel is on its \u2018A\u2019 game to accessorize its blockbuster release with dozens of retail brand collaborations in franchised merchandise of all forms,\u201d he writes.<\/p>\n

Mattel\u2019s stock has risen 17.4% in the last month, outpacing the S&P 500\u2019s
\n SPX,
\n -0.10%<\/bg-quote>
\n gain of 2.2%.<\/p>\n

Barbie is Mattel\u2019s most profitable franchise, with operating profit margins north of 21%, UBS analyst Arpin\u00e9 Kocharyan said in a recent note. \u201cWe expect the upcoming movie to have an overall halo effect on the franchise, with perhaps limited impact on toy sales \u2014 at least initially \u2014 while the bigger opportunity is in consumer products as the film is targeting an older audience,\u201d she wrote. \u201cThis might not move the needle for revenues, but could be impactful for [Mattel\u2019s] earnings, given substantially higher margin of more than 80% on royalty stream.\u201d UBS generally expects an evergreen toy franchise to have a royalty rate of 8% to 12% on consumer-product revenue.<\/p>\n

\u201cBarbie\u00a0has never had a box office event of this scale before, and Mattel\u2019s management fully acknowledges the risks and opportunities that come with such an undertaking,\u201d Kocharyan added.<\/p>\n

Other companies are also preparing to live in a Barbie world over the coming weeks. \u201cRetailers are all in on the pink promotions and collaborations for this blockbuster-timed release,\u201d says Aptos\u2019s Bruno, highlighting Crocs Inc.

\n as an example. \u201cEven Crocs, whose legendary brand is built on the extreme comfort of their shoes \u2014 the very antithesis of Barbie\u2019s arch-bending high heels \u2014 has launched a collection of pink Barbie-themed products,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cBarbiecore Crocs has entered the chat,\u201d tweeted Crocs on Tuesday as it launched its Barbie collection.<\/p>\n

Crocs shares, which have risen 12.8% in the last month, ended Friday\u2019s session down 1.6%.<\/p>\n

Another company eyeing a Barbie boost is movie-theater chain and meme-stock darling AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc.

\n \u201cBarbie opens July 21 only in theatres,\u201d tweeted AMC CEO Adam Aron on Sunday. \u201cStarring Margot Robbie as Barbie & Ryan Gosling as Ken. The advance publicity has been monumental, cover story of Time, People, Vogue, Bloomberg Business Week among others. Who ever said that movies and movie theatres are dead?\u201d<\/p>\n

On Monday AMC said that 40,000 of its AMC Stubs members have bought tickets to see \u201cBarbie\u201d and the other big summer blockbuster, Universal Pictures\u2019 \u201cOppenheimer,\u201d on the same day. The two movies open on July 21 and have even sparked an internet phenomenon dubbed \u201cBarbenheimer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think\u00a0\u2018Barbie\u2019\u00a0will have a successful run in theaters,\u201d Alicia Reese, vice president of equity research at Wedbush Securities, told MarketWatch. \u201cIt\u2019s received excellent reviews and feedback so far, and it\u2019s for most age groups, being a PG title, so [it] should have broad appeal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBarbie\u201d is currently expected to earn around $225 million at the domestic box office, with a $90 million opening weekend, according to Reese, while the R-rated \u201cOppenheimer\u201d is expected to have a $145 million domestic box-office run with a $50 million opening.<\/p>\n
