Like every other doodad in the tech space, doorbells have gotten \u201csmart.\u201d Maybe too smart. They not only have tiny video cameras, they may be violating your privacy.<\/p>\n

According to The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the popular \u201cRing\u201d doorbell\/home security system may \u201clet employees spy on customers through their cameras, including those in their bedrooms or bathrooms, and made customers’ videos, including videos of kids, vulnerable to online attackers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHackers exploited those vulnerabilities and harassed, insulted, and propositioned children and teens through their Ring cameras,\u201d the FTC stated. \u201cSome hackers even live streamed customers\u2019 videos.\u201d<\/p>\n

The FTC sued Ring and agreed to a settlement \u201cto establish a privacy and security program and delete the videos it shouldn\u2019t have \u2014 in addition to paying $5.8 million to affected customers.\u201d<\/p>\n
