As with a similar IRS scam, they demand money \u2014 or else they will arrest you.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how scammers\u2019 scripts go if they get someone on the phone or responding to an email or text:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a warrant out for your arrest and you\u2019ll be arrested if you don\u2019t pay a fine now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m calling from the local court and you need to pay a fine for jury duty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bottom line in all of these scams is immediate demand for cash or gift cards.<\/p>\n<p>They also may impersonate officials from banks, debt collection firms and Medicare. This is what the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recommends to protect yourself and loved ones:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A real government agency won\u2019t call, email, text, or send you a direct message on social media to sell you anything or ask you to pay to get your Medicare card or other information.<\/li>\n<li>If you get an unexpected call, email, text message, or direct message on social media from someone claiming to be affiliated with Medicare or other agency, do not answer. Chances are that\u2019s a scammer.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t call them back at the number they give you, and don\u2019t use the number that shows up on your caller ID.<\/li>\n<li>If it\u2019s a robocall, don\u2019t press any numbers. Pressing numbers could lead to more calls. If you get an email or text message, don\u2019t click on any links. Scammers design these links to steal your financial and personal information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><fbs-ad position=\"inread\" progressive=\"\" ad-id=\"article-0-inread\" aria-hidden=\"true\" role=\"presentation\"><\/fbs-ad><\/p>\n<p>Think you\u2019ve been swindled?
