Twitter defended its decision to limit the amount of posts users can view a day on Tuesday, citing \u201cbots and other bad actors that are harming the platform.\u201d<\/p>\n

Twitter said in a blog post<\/a> on Tuesday that it has taken \u201cextreme measures\u201d to remove spam and bots from the app. <\/p>\n

\u201cAt a high level, we are working to prevent these accounts from scraping people\u2019s public Twitter data to build AI models and manipulating people and conversation on the platform in various ways,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n

This business update comes after Elon Musk announced on Saturday that app users will be temporarily limited to the amount of posts they can read a day, with verified users able to read more posts than unverified accounts. It is unclear when these restrictions will be lifted.<\/p>\n

Musk tweeted on Friday<\/a> that there has been \u201cextreme levels of data scraping,\u201d and \u201calmost every company doing AI, from start-ups to some of the biggest corporations on Earth, was scraping vast amounts of data.\u201d The purpose of the limitations on the platform is to ensure the legitimacy of the app\u2019s user base, detect bots, and remove them from the app, Twitter said Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Amid the new platform regulations,

\n (ticker: META) is preparing to launch its app, Threads, on July 6. Threads is another microblogging app that is expected to be a direct competitor of Twitter.<\/p>\n
