{"id":31028,"date":"2023-07-03T20:55:32","date_gmt":"2023-07-04T00:55:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/markets\/crypto\/bny-mellon-franklin-templeton-heads-to-co-chair-new-digital-asset-panel\/"},"modified":"2023-07-03T20:55:33","modified_gmt":"2023-07-04T00:55:33","slug":"bny-mellon-franklin-templeton-heads-to-co-chair-new-digital-asset-panel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/?p=31028","title":{"rendered":"BNY Mellon, Franklin Templeton Heads to Co-Chair New Digital Asset Panel"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>BNY Mellon<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Franklin Templeton<\/strong>\u00a0have been appointed as co-chairs of the new\u00a0<strong>Digital Assets Market Subcommittee<\/strong>\u00a0by the US derivatives and commodities regulator.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caroline Butler<\/strong>, the global head of digital assets at BNY Mellon, and\u00a0<strong>Sandy Kaul<\/strong>, the head of digital and industry advisory services at Franklin Templeton, will lead the subcommittee, which focuses specifically on digital assets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caroline Pham<\/strong>, a commissioner with the\u00a0<strong>Commodity Futures Trading Commission<\/strong>, announced the appointments in a\u00a0Friday press release.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Digital Assets Market Subcommittee is part of the CFTC&#8217;s broader initiative to address issues related to US capital markets and make recommendations on policies regarding derivatives and trading platforms.<\/p>\n<p>With the inclusion of BNY Mellon and Franklin Templeton, there are now a total of 128 members across the CFTC&#8217;s various committees and subcommittees.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;BNY Mellon is committed to playing a leadership role in shaping the future of finance for the betterment of our clients and the broader ecosystem,&#8221; commented Butler in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Representatives From Crypto Companies Are Included in the Digital Assets Subcommittee<\/h2>\n<p>In addition to BNY Mellon and Franklin Templeton, the Digital Assets Subcommittee includes representatives from various crypto companies such as\u00a0<strong>Coinfund<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Crypto.com<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Uniswap<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wall Street is also represented, with members from\u00a0<strong>BlackRock<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>DRW<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Goldman Sachs<\/strong>\u00a0included in the subcommittee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore,\u00a0<strong>Nadine Chakar<\/strong>, CEO of\u00a0<strong>Securrency<\/strong>, which provides blockchain consulting and development services, has joined the parent committee of the CFTC&#8217;s Global Markets Advisory Committee (GMAC), along with Kevin Kennedy from Nasdaq.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chakar previously held a position as a crypto executive at State Street.<\/p>\n<p>The GMAC, along with its subcommittees, aims to assist the regulator in navigating issues related to US capital markets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This includes making recommendations on policy changes for financial instruments like derivatives and overseeing companies involved in trading, such as exchanges and brokers.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the CFTC approved leveraged crypto derivatives products for the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The CBOE also filed a bid with the <strong>Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC<\/strong>) on behalf of Fidelity for a spot <strong>Bitcoin (BTC)<\/strong> exchange-traded fund (ETF) shortly after\u00a0a similar move by BlackRock.<\/p>\n<p>However, the filings\u00a0were returned by the SEC\u00a0due to their lack of clarity and comprehensiveness.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, in a recent\u00a0interview with crypto veteran Scott Melker, Kaul predicted that institutional investments would provide a strong foundation for the digital asset space.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think that you\u2019re starting to see that institutional interest.
