Following the sudden crash of FTX exchange, many firms tied to the platform also suffered, and many more who had invested in the platform concluded that their investments were the wrong move.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, American venture capitalist, Alfred Lin, who is also a partner at Sequoia Capital, has stood by the decision.<\/p>\n

Sequoia lost over $213 million by investing in FTX<\/h2>\n

Sequoia invested $213.5 million into the now-bankrupt exchange, but Lin said in a recent talk that the investment was the right move at the time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

More than that, he said that he would recommend it again, if he were asked to evaluate FTX for the first time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI looked at the work we did in 15 different ways,\u201d said Lin.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We probably would have made the investment again.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

His words indicate that there was nothing wrong with FTX or how it operated when the investment decision was made. At least according to the data that Sequoia had about the platform.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There were no suspicious activities or red flags of any kind based on what the company managed to gather.<\/p>\n

Sequoia Capital holds around $85 billion in assets under management and invested in multiple major technology companies.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In addition to that, it also invested in a number of crypto businesses. It used two of its funds to invest in FTX and FTX US.<\/p>\n

The Global Growth Fund III held a $150 million investment into the now-bankrupt crypto exchange, which represents around 3% of the fund\u2019s total capital.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The other fund, Capital Global Equities Fund, invested 1% of its portfolio \u2014 around $63.5 million \u2014 into both FTX and FTX US.<\/p>\n

After FTX crashed, the company sent a letter to its partner, calling its FTX investments \u201ccomplete losses.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, the company noted that it is in the business of taking risks, saying that some investors will surprise to the upside and some to the downside.<\/p>\n

Lin stressed that Sequoia\u2019s investment thesis relies on trusting founders and taking calculated risks. Sometimes, the investments fail to deliver, which is simply a part of the business.<\/p>\n

Sequoia is still not discouraged from pursuing crypto investments<\/h2>\n

The positive thing is that the negative experience that the firm and its partners had with FTX did not discourage them from pursuing crypto investments.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Lin noted that the venture capital firm’s \u201cstill very excited about the concept of crypto.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is even more important given the fact that the FTX collapse created more problems for Sequoia than one.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Of course, the loss of its investment was an issue, but also something that the company knew how to deal with.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, in the aftermath of the exchange\u2019s crash, some of the bankrupt exchange\u2019s users are suing the financiers of the platform.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sequoia is among them, in addition to Paradigm and Thoma Bravo.<\/p>\n
