{"id":27593,"date":"2023-06-26T09:38:34","date_gmt":"2023-06-26T13:38:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/markets\/treasury-yields-fall-to-begin-week-after-short-lived-russia-mutiny-german-data\/"},"modified":"2023-06-26T09:38:35","modified_gmt":"2023-06-26T13:38:35","slug":"treasury-yields-fall-to-begin-week-after-short-lived-russia-mutiny-german-data","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/?p=27593","title":{"rendered":"Treasury yields fall to begin week after short-lived Russia mutiny, German data"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"js-article__body\" itemprop=\"articleBody\" data-sbid=\"WP-MKTW-0002211269\" role=\"document\">\n<p>Treasury yields fell Monday as investors looked ahead to data that may provide further clues to the Federal Reserve\u2019s rate path, while global financial markets remained calm following a short-lived mutiny by the mercenary Wagner Group that raised questions about Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s grip on power.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n<h2>What yields are doing<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"articleList\">\n<li>\n      The yield on the 2-year Treasury note<br \/>\n        TMUBMUSD02Y,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.000%\" channel=\"\" class=\"\">4.746%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       fell to 4.708%, down from 4.748% at 3 p.m. Eastern on Friday.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      The 10-year Treausury note<br \/>\n        TMUBMUSD10Y,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.000%\" channel=\"\" class=\"\">3.732%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       yielded 3.681%, down from 3.737% Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n      The rate on the 30-year Treasury bond<br \/>\n        TMUBMUSD30Y,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.000%\" channel=\"\" class=\"\">3.821%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       dropped to 3.772% from 3.819% late Friday.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What\u2019s driving the market<\/h2>\n<p>The mutiny, led by Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin late Friday, saw the mercenary paramilitary force take over Russia\u2019s southern military headquarters in Rostov-on-Don amid little resistance before marching largely unchallenged toward Moscow. Putin, without mentioning him by name, accused Prigozhin of treason.<\/p>\n<p>The advance halted a little more than 120 miles from the capital on Saturday before Prigozhin abruptly stood down in a deal that would see him sent to Belarus and charges against him of leading an armed rebellion dropped.<\/p>\n<p>The events sent no major shock waves through global financial markets, while oil prices saw only a modest rise. But analysts warned of the potential for further internal strife to stoke volatility. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Read:<\/strong> What\u2019s next for markets after aborted Wagner mutiny leaves Russia\u2019s Putin weakened<\/p>\n<p>10- and 30-year Treasury yields fell last week, while short-end yields rose, deepening an inversion of the yield curve and highlighting growing recession fears. A flurry of rate hikes by European central banks last week heightened worries about growth, while Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell reiterated that a \u201cstrong majority\u201d of policy makers were in favor of two more quarter-point rate increases after the central bank opted earlier this month to leave its fed-funds rate unchanged.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Germany\u2019s Ifo business-climate index declined to 88.5 in June from 91.5 in May, according to data from the Ifo Institute published Monday.
