This lack of regulation in the debt relief industry has made it easier for fraudsters to operate without consequence. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>What are some signs that you\u2019re being solicited for a scam? Here\u2019s what to look out for:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Access to Bank Accounts.<\/strong> They might claim that this is necessary in order to negotiate with creditors or make payments on their behalf. However, it gives them unrestricted access to your money. Don\u2019t do it.<\/p>\n<p><fbs-ad position=\"inread\" progressive=\"\" ad-id=\"article-0-inread\" aria-hidden=\"true\" role=\"presentation\"><\/fbs-ad><\/p>\n<p><strong>Aggressive Sales Tactics and False Claims.<\/strong> They might claim that \u201ctime is running out, or that they have a special offer that\u2019s only available for a limited time.\u201d They might also use scare tactics, such as telling you that you\u2019ll be sued if you don\u2019t sign up for their services immediately. They may even \u201cguarantee\u201d results that promise to wipe out all of your debts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>False Representation.<\/strong> They may even claim to be a government official or from the IRS or other agency.<\/p>\n<p>The best way to avoid these swindles is to ask for credentials and do your research.
