According to EPA reports, the\u00a0longest-range version of the upcoming\u00a0Fisker Ocean\u00a0will travel 360 miles between charges.<\/p>\n

That bests the\u00a0Tesla
\n TSLA,
\n +2.22%<\/bg-quote>
\n Model Y\u00a0\u2014 America\u2019s best-selling electric vehicle most months \u2014 by 30 miles.<\/p>\n

The Ocean is a compact electric SUV designed by Henrik Fisker, an automotive designer whose credits include the original\u00a0BMW Z8\u00a0and the\u00a0Aston Martin DB9. This is his second attempt to launch an electric vehicle company under his own name.<\/p>\n

His first attempt, Fisker Automotive, closed in 2014 after selling about 2,000 sporty\u00a0Fisker Karma\u00a0luxury cars. This second attempt, Fisker Inc.,
\n FSR,
\n +0.52%<\/bg-quote>
\n has several products in its pipeline, including the Ocean and the Pear subcompact SUV.<\/p>\n

The Ocean offers innovative features like an available solar roof (it doesn\u2019t produce enough energy to recharge the battery for daily use, but Fisker says it \u201ccan produce up to 1,500 clean, emissions-free miles per year\u201d) and a central touchscreen that rotates from portrait to landscape orientation. Prices start at $37,499.<\/p>\n

It is built in Austria, so it will not qualify for U.S. federal EV tax credits.<\/p>\n

The company plans to offer the Ocean in four trim levels, but the EPA certification applies to the high-end Ocean Extreme with 20-inch wheels and the larger \u201chyper range\u201d battery pack.<\/p>\n

In a press release last week, the company said it \u201cwill commence volume deliveries\u201d of the Ocean \u201cto U.S. customers the week of June 19.\u201d<\/p>\n

Delivering a vehicle to customers is a massive step for a fledgling automaker, but it does not guarantee success. This latest iteration of Fisker is one of\u00a0a host of new EV startups that may topple before they reach financial stability.<\/p>\n

The company\u2019s stock is traded at $5.91 at press time \u2014 down from a high of $28.50 in 2021.<\/p>\n
