London’s Heathrow Airport said Monday that passenger numbers in May rose 26% to 6.7 million, helped by the three bank holidays in the U.K. that month, and that it doesn’t anticipate cancellations from strikes during the summer season.<\/p>\n

The airport, which is jointly owned by the Qatar Investment Authority, China Investment Corp. and Spain’s Ferrovial among others, said it now has more daily flights than ever before between the U.K. and the U.S. as airlines switch capacity to North Atlantic routes away from European and east Asian markets.<\/p>\n
The airport also called on the U.K. government to reinstate tax-free shopping to allow British businesses and the U.K. economy to maximize the benefits from recovering markets.<\/p>\n
Cargo in May slipped 4.9% on year to 112,363 metric tons, Heathrow said.<\/p>\n
