Friday should be a cause for celebration. After all, it\u2019s National Donut Day, an occasion that will have many of us seeking free offerings of the sweet treat from any number of purveyors.<\/p>\n

But count me out of the big cream-filled (or jelly-filled) party \u2014 and not because I\u2019m on one of my perpetual diets. Rather, it\u2019s because I mourn the state of the American doughnut.<\/p>\n
