{"id":13354,"date":"2023-05-24T21:07:53","date_gmt":"2023-05-25T01:07:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/markets\/fitch-puts-u-s-debt-on-credit-watch-negative\/"},"modified":"2023-05-24T21:07:54","modified_gmt":"2023-05-25T01:07:54","slug":"fitch-puts-u-s-debt-on-credit-watch-negative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/?p=13354","title":{"rendered":"Fitch Puts U.S. Debt on &#8216;Credit Watch Negative&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"js-article__body\" itemprop=\"articleBody\" data-sbid=\"WP-BAR-0000655370\">\n<div data-layout=\"wrap\n              \" data-layout-mobile=\"\" class=\"\n        media-object\n        type-InsetMediaIllustration\n          wrap\n  article__inset\n        article__inset--type-InsetMediaIllustration\n          article__inset--wrap\n    article__inset--lead\n  \"><\/p>\n<figure class=\"\n        media-object-image\n        enlarge-image\n        img-wrap\n        article__inset__image\n      \" itemscope=\"\" itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/ImageObject\"><\/p>\n<\/figure><\/div>\n<p>After months of debate over the debt ceiling, Fitch Ratings has issued a warning about U.S. debt, putting the country\u2019s top-rated bonds on \u201cRating Watch Negative.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Rating Watch Negative reflects increased political partisanship that is hindering reaching a resolution to raise or suspend the debt limit despite the fast-approaching x date,\u201d Fitch wrote in a press release late Wednesday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n<p>While Fitch said it \u201cstill expects a resolution to the debt limit before the x-date,\u201d the firm said risks were rising that the country could begin to \u201cmiss payments on some of its obligations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In perhaps an optimistic sign for some investors, though, Fitch reiterated the strength of overall U.S. credit. \u201cFitch would expect the U.S. country ceiling to remain at \u2018AAA\u2019 even in the scenario of a debt default,\u201d the firm wrote. \u201cThe U.S. dollar is the pre-eminent world\u2019s reserve currency, and we view the risk of exchange and capital controls as de minimis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq Composite futures were trading higher late Wednesday, a  move that\u2019s at least partially tied to a strong earnings report and impressive outlook from<br \/>\n        Nvidia<br \/>\n       (ticker: NVDA).
