Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase is honing in on Washington DC with a new TV campaign set to launch this week promoting the future of crypto amid its own fight with US regulators.<\/p>\n

In a black and white and almost two-minute long video, CEO Brian Armstrong lays out the benefits of crypto and calls out its \u201cnaive view.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe naive view of crypto is that this is some speculative asset that people are trading and they\u2019re going to lose their shirts,\u201d Armstrong said. \u201cThat\u2019s missing the forest through the trees.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the early days, Armstrong said, comparing it to the Internet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cCryptocurrency, regardless of what you think about it, is not going anywhere,\u201d Armstrong said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Other countries are embracing the technology, Armstrong added, and warned of future national security concerns.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I fear is that we\u2019re going to be sitting here in five to 10 years and we\u2019re going to come back to crypto and think about it like we did with 5G or semiconductors, and say, wow, now it\u2019s a matter of national security that we get it brought back on shore,\u201d Armstrong said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There will be four ads featuring Armstrong, Coinbase said<\/u>, which will appear on \u201cpopular Sunday shows\u201d with a new chapter going out each weekend.<\/p>\n

Coinbase\u2019s ongoing fight with the US SEC<\/h2>\n

Coinbase was served a Wells notice in March\u00a0 \u2014\u00a0which means that the US Securities and Exchange Commission is ready to recommend formal charges to its five-member commission.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve repeatedly asked the SEC for its own views on how securities laws might apply to Coinbase and our industry. To be candid, we\u2019ve mostly gotten silence in response,\u201d said Coinbase\u2019s Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal in a video<\/u> response to the SEC\u2019s Wells Notice.\u00a0<\/p>\n

SEC Chair Gary Gensler has called on exchanges to register and recently said last week that they tend to be \u201crife with conflicts<\/u>.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lawmakers in the nation\u2019s capital are working on bills to regulate crypto, but it\u2019s yet to be seen what bills will come to fruition.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
