Bad news, Star Wars fans \u2014 future launches of Disney World\u2019s immersive Galactic Starcruiser experience are getting scrubbed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n revealed Thursday that the final voyage of its pricey, two-day Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience in Orlando will take place in late September, and all new bookings are temporarily paused.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Disney wasn\u2019t immediately available for comment, but an update on the attraction\u2019s website says that the experience will wrap by Sept. 30, with the Sept. 28-30 session being its last call.<\/p>\n

The cruise-like hotel experience \u2014 also commonly called the \u201cStar Wars hotel\u201d \u2014 launched with much fanfare in March 2022. Guests pay about $4,800 to $6,000 a person (depending on the size of their party) to spend a couple of days living out a live-action \u201cStar Wars\u201d fantasy in a makeshift spaceship called the Halcyon. The Galactic Starcruiser\u2019s website bills the experience as an \u201cimmersive adventure\u201d where guests interact with Star Wars characters, plot a mission together, and stay in rooms with views of \u201couter space.\u201d A booking also grants special access to Disney World\u2019s other Star Wars attraction, the Galaxy\u2019s Edge area of the Hollywood Studios theme park.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But it drew mixed reactions from some visitors, especially over the astronomical price tag \u2014 which could climb to around $20,000 for a \u201ctricked-out\u201d suite, according to the New York Times. And Gizmodo writer Joel Cunningham, who attended a free press preview, wrote that, \u201cI never, ever (ever) would have paid what it costs to take my family to this thing.\u201d But he also said that \u201cit really is incredibly cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

But that\u2019s all wrapping up this fall.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so proud of all of the Cast Members and Imagineers who brought Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to life and look forward to delivering an excellent experience for Guests during the remaining voyages over the coming months,\u201d Disney said in a statement online. \u201cThank you to our Guests and fans for making this experience so special.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

So what does this mean for people who have already booked \u201cvoyages\u201d for on or after Sept. 30? The attraction\u2019s website notes that these guests will be contacted \u201csoon\u201d to discuss their options and to modify their plans.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And in the meantime, new bookings will be paused to prioritize helping guests affected by the closure.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The news led Google searches asking about whether the \u201cStar Wars hotel\u201d is closing to spike on Thursday and Friday, as well as queries over why the attraction is closing. A spokesperson would only tell CNN that it was \u201ca business decision.\u201d The future of the building that houses the experience also remains unclear.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And this announcement came the same day that Disney, still mired in a political feud with Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, scrapped its plans for a roughly $1 billion investment in a new corporate campus in Florida that would have relocated more than 2,000 employees. Josh D\u2019Amaro, chairman of Disney\u2019s parks, experiences and products division, told employees Thursday in a memo viewed by MarketWatch that this was due in part to \u201cchanging business conditions.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
