{"id":10814,"date":"2023-05-19T05:42:44","date_gmt":"2023-05-19T09:42:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/investing\/disney-and-hulu-to-start-removing-shows-next-week\/"},"modified":"2023-05-19T05:42:45","modified_gmt":"2023-05-19T09:42:45","slug":"disney-and-hulu-to-start-removing-shows-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ifintechworld.com\/?p=10814","title":{"rendered":"Disney+ and Hulu to start removing shows next week"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"js-article__body\" itemprop=\"articleBody\" data-sbid=\"WP-MKTW-0002075699\" role=\"document\">\n<p>The Walt Disney Co. will start removing titles from its Disney+ and Hulu streaming services next week.<\/p>\n<p>Vulture first reported details of the purge late Thursday, involving at least 27 titles, including the Disney+ fantasy series \u201cWillow,\u201d a follow-up to the 1988 movie, which premiered in November; \u201cPistol,\u201d Hulu\u2019s 2022 biographical miniseries about the Sex Pistols; and Hulu\u2019s 2021 post-apocalyptic drama \u201cY: The Last Man.\u201d <\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n<p>Additional shows could be removed next week, and more shows are expected to be dropped from the platforms in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Disney<br \/>\n        DIS,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203410047\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.07%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       announced the move last week with its quarterly earnings report. On a conference call with analysts, Chief Financial Officer Christine McCarthy said Disney was reviewing its content to \u201calign with strategic changes in our approach to content curation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will be removing certain content from our streaming platforms, and currently expect to take an impairment charge of approximately $1.5 billion to $1.8 billion,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>More: <\/strong>Streaming nirvana is about to become more expensive \u2014 and offer less content<\/p>\n<p>While no details have been released, it\u2019s expected that the removed shows will eventually show up elsewhere, whether on FAST streaming channels or on third-party platforms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also see: <\/strong>Comcast is \u2018more likely than not\u2019 to sell Hulu stake to Disney next year, CEO says<\/p>\n<p>The move comes after Warner Bros.
